What are daisies?
The daisy (Bellis perennis) belongs to the daisy family and is a perennial plant that is common in Europe, Asia and North America. It has a short stem with a rosette of spatulate leaves and a flower with many white ray florets and a yellow tubular flower head. The flower opens in sunshine and closes in darkness or rain. Daisies flower from March to October and reproduce by seed or runners.
The daisy has a long tradition as a medicinal plant and was already used by the ancient Romans and Greeks. It contains various active ingredients such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, bitter substances and essential oils. It has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antispasmodic, blood-purifying, diuretic and wound-healing properties.
