Agave is a genus of succulents consisting of more than 200 species. Most agaves originate from Mexico and the southwest of the USA, where they grow in dry and hot areas. Some species are also used to distil tequila or mezcal.

Are there benefits of agave for dogs?
Agave syrup has a low glycemic index and contains some minerals such as potassium, magnesium and iron. It can therefore be used as an alternative to conventional sugar to stabilize blood sugar levels or increase energy. However, it should only be given in moderation, as it still contains a lot of fructose, which can lead to obesity or liver damage. Agave syrup can also cause allergic reactions in some dogs.
